Beschreibung
Abstract: My research focuses on age-related changes in cells, tissues, and organisms, investigating how these processes influence metabolic functions and the development of age-associated diseases. Key areas of interest include mechanisms of senescence in postmitotic cells, alterations in redox status, protein oxidation, age-related accumulation of protein aggregates, such as lipofuscin. So, we investigated the formation and metabolic effects of lipofuscin. More recently we focus on research targeting the functional consequences of lipofuscin accumulation in insulin-producing beta cells and cardiomyocytes as well as studies on lipofuscin composition and removal.
