No Climate Justice without Gender Justice: Intro to eco-feminism, intersectionality & the environment
Have you ever wondered how climate justice intersects with gender justice? Why is gender important within climate discussions? How does climate change affect WLINTA (Women, Lesbian, Intersex, Trans, Agender) people?
In this lecture, we will explore these questions and try to find possible answers to the differentiated gendered impacts of climate change. In addition, the students will be introduced to concepts that are highly important within the climate movement(s) in the Global North and South, such as the concept and history of eco-feminism and intersectionality. This session will also include findings from a research conducted in Uganda on the gender and climate change policy discourse in order to better understand the importance of empowering while avoiding victimizing women* in climate adaptation practices. The lecture will be given by Elena Georgiadi (she/they) who is a climate activist and is currently working as a project manager at GenderCC -Women for Climate Justice in Berlin.
