Beschreibung
Contemporary Bolivia has become a laboratory for radical, if contested, experiments in decolonization, legal pluralism, and ideological agency, among others. These experiments take place in the context of an official state policy of “postneoliberalism,” which is announced in the Preamble to the 2009 constitution and which appears in various government documents and propaganda instruments.
This presentation will examine the meanings of “postneoliberalism” in the Bolivian context with reference to broader historical and political economic developments in Latin America and beyond. Based on both longterm ethnographic research and new research that focuses specifically on the economic dimensions of postneoliberalism in Bolivia, the presentation will also highlight the unique contributions that anthropological research has to make in debates over broader regional and global logics of governance, resistance, and the writing of history’s scripts.
