Beschreibung
Translation and Dissonance. Innovation Patterns in the Creative Industries
The branches of the cultural and creative industries generate a rising flow of new products and services. In doing so, they provide evidence that novelty-production follows two fundamental patterns. A Disney movie is used to demonstrate how forms of meaning that are successful in triggering experiences among the audience, are transposed to new content, and a Beatles song will serve to show how new differences between worlds of valuation are turned into new products.
Michael Hutter studied mathematics and economics in Germany and the U.S., and he held positions at the University of Munich and at Claremont McKenna College, CA. From 1987-2008, he held the chair for economic theory at Witten/Herdecke University. His most recent larger publication is “Beyond Price. Value in Culture, Economics and the Arts” (Cambridge University Press, 2008), edited together with David Throsby.
